What is a Marriage and Family Therapist?
As a marriage and family therapist, I believe no one exists in isolation meaning everyone is a part of a system, be it a family system, the world of business, or society at large. Therefore, my approach to therapy involves examining and understanding the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of my client’s lives, as I believe you cannot truly know a person until you understand how they fit into, and function, in their world.
How can you help me if you haven’t experienced my problem before?
Additionally, it is important for you to know that while I consider myself to be a competent clinician, I do not consider myself to be an expert on your life. Therefore, I will work with you collaboratively in order to set treatment goals and to determine the best course of treatment.
Who do I need to bring to my session?
There is no limit to who, or on how many people, I will see in one therapy session. I am happy to meet with any combination of friends, family, couples, parents and children, siblings, or individuals who wish to come to for therapy. As my training as a Marriage and Family Therapist has taught me, no one person exists in isolation and problems are often initiated and resolved within a system. With that said, I will never force or coerce an individual into bringing a buddy or family member to therapy and I am more than comfortable working with individuals one on one for the duration of treatment.
Do you prescribe medication?
While I'm happy to discuss the difference between medications and collaborate with a psychiatrist or prescribing physician, I am incapable of prescribing medication.
Do you Provide Intensive Emergency Care?
As a therapist working in private practice I do not provide 24 hour crisis intervention or care. Any immediate concerns should be addressed by calling 911. However, in the event of suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, and/or psychosis that presents during a therapy session I will contact the necessary authorities and arrange for safety. Similarly, if you are especially distressed and wish to change your scheduled appointment time or wish to schedule more than one appointment per week, I am happy to accommodate these requests, within reason, during normal business hours.
Do you perform Child Custody Evaluations?
NO. In order to preserve therapeutic relationships I do not provide custody evaluations. I am however, happy and capable of providing the name of a therapist who will.
Do you Conduct Psychological Testing?
Although I use evidenced based assessments in my therapy sessions and will provide a diagnosis for the purpose of insurance, I am not qualified to conduct psychological testing for school, work, or disability.

What is therapy like?
Anchor Family Therapy tailors services to fit the needs of each individual, couple or, family in treatment. What you address in therapy will depend on your personal goals and hopes for treatment. Each session may look different, but you can expect to be challenged, supported, and validated in a safe and confidential environment. Your therapist may also choose to assign homework to help you work on your goals in between sessions. Sessions typically last 45-50 minutes on average, but may last longer depending on your specific needs.
Does therapy actually work?
Therapy results are never guaranteed. However, we typically find that the more you put into therapy the more you get out of therapy. The tools that we offer have worked for many others and are evidenced based. Of course, we will be there to guide and support you every step of the way!
How long does therapy last?
Therapy can last anywhere from weeks, to months, or even years if necessary, because treatment is designed to address the unique needs of each client at Anchor Family Therapy. However, clients are typically in treatment from 3-6 months on average.
How often do clients attend therapy?
This decision is typically agreed upon together by the client(s) and therapist. In order to achieve lasting changes, we recommend that clients attend therapy weekly or ever other week. However, this decision is ultimately up to the client.
